The landmarks that make Pensacola, Florida, the city of Five Flags appear on all 300 laps of the Snowball Derby. As the field swings around the third turn, the five flags of the five nations that have ruled over Pensacola are waving as the Super Late Models circle back to the home stretch. The history of flags goes back even further than the Snowball Derby, to when Pensacola was settled in 1559.

This year, the staff at Five Flags Speedway are encouraging drivers to add a sticker or decal of their state flag to their roof in front of their names to show where they are from. The highest-finishing driver with a state flag or county flag decal next to their name on the roof above the driver's door will receive an extra $1,000.T

“Each year we continue to be impressed with the travel that drivers do to be a part of the Snowball Derby,” said track General Manager Tim Bryant. “Years ago, it was a bunch of guys from Florida and some outsiders, but now it’s Minnesota, Wisconsin, California, New Hampshire, Virginia, Washington; the list is growing each year, and we want drivers to represent themselves and where they are from.”

In 2025, the Snowball Derby featured drivers from 16 different states and two Canadian provinces. This does not include drivers who did not make the main event or drivers running in the support divisions.

With the extra flags on their cars, they will all still be chasing the checkered flag and the $50,000 payday as the winner of the Snowball Derby. The Snowball Derby gets underway with rig parking on Wednesday, December 2nd.
