Loftin Celebrates Freedom 250 In Style Winning Revolutionary 99

Is it appropriate to use the phrases “pure domination” and “fending off challengers” to describe the winner of a race? In the context of the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic event on July 4th at Caraway Speedway, the answer is unequivocally yes.

Carson Loftin secured the Pace-O-Matic Pole award during qualifying, drew the number-1 position, and led every lap to secure victory in the Revolutionary 99 held in Sophia, NC.

The most challenging aspect for Loftin was defending against numerous contenders during the race’s multiple restarts, including Joey Braun, Burt Myers, and Ryan Newman.

Loftin faced his greatest threat from Danny Bohn, the most dominant driver in the series this year. Bohn, a three-time race winner, utilized the outside lane on restarts to exert significant pressure on the young driver. However, Loftin’s Shady Grady Racing 15 proved superior on this warm evening.

“I always enjoy racing against Danny; I have a great deal of respect for him,” stated Loftin, who achieved his eighth career SMART victory. “He raced me very cleanly. I trust him immensely; he’s an outstanding race car driver, so I knew I had to remain vigilant. I felt my car performed better on longer runs, so I was fortunate to hold him off at the end.”

“I think he just had a bit more roll speed through turns three and four,” explained Bohn, who remains the SMART Modified Tour point leader after eight races. “He had a strong car all day. We were 17th in practice, pulled one out of our pocket and qualified sixth, which I was extremely pleased with. At one point, we were as far back as seventh in the race, so it was a solid day for us. All the points contenders were behind us, so we’ll move on to the next race.”

Three-time SMART Modified Tour champion Burt Myers matched his season-best finish of third at Caraway. Ryan Newman and Carter McMurray completed the top-five finishers.

The SMART Modified Tour will take a month-long break before heading to Pulaski Motorsports Park in Virginia for the Radford Race on Friday, August 7.
