Layne Riggs won the inaugural NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Naval Base Coronado in thrilling fashion on Friday night, maneuvering around the final two corners in overtime to beat his nearest opponent by 1.332 seconds.
The victory marks Riggs’ fourth Truck victory of the season, and ninth in his career.
Riggs, racing in the No. 34 Front Row Racing Ford, was in second behind Tyler Reif entering the final corner of the 3.4-mile circuit. Riggs was able to gain the lead after pressuring Reif, who steered to the inside of the tire barriers and came to a stop.

Daniel Hemric finished second in the debut race at Qualcomm Circuit. Meanwhile, hometown hero Jimmie Johnson led two laps in Friday’s race, but a couple of spinouts that resulted in damage left him with a 30th-place finish.
