Thousands of fans packed a sold-out Nashville Superspeedway Sunday night for NASCAR’s Cracker Barrel 400.
Despite nearly an hour and a half long rain delay, the race proved to be action-packed. According to NASCAR, 31 lead changes among 15 different drivers set a new track record. Among the standout moments from the race, three Joe Gibbs Racing teammates—Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe— faced off in an intense back-and-forth in the final four laps.
After an early penalty buried Hamlin at the back of the pack, he stuck to the game plan, slicing his way through the field to fend off Bell. As a proven master of concrete tracks, Hamlin finally conquered Nashville to take home that iconic Gibson guitar trophy. Bell finished second, followed by Briscoe in third.
“I’m glad we all finished one, two, three. It was getting close, there was a lot of contact there late, and just so happy for this Progressive team,” Hamlin told News 2’s Julian Mininsohn.
“I’ve been trying to win here for so many years, been very close, and this is actually one where I didn’t think we had the speed to win, and obviously getting black flagged on the first lap for jumping the start, which I understand, and we just grinded our way back,” Hamlin said. “I thought we were gonna finish third, and you know, just got fortunate with that caution and then that shootout at the end was just epic.”
